Argus

Relinquished to Sonoma County Animal Care and Control in December, 2007, Argus is considered to be CHANGE's "darkest case" of animal abuse and neglect. Owned by a hoarder for all of his life, this Thoroughbred gelding spent 15 years--from weaning to age 15--locked in a 12-by-6 mare motel pen. He was kept alive on stale bread and rotting produce and the occasional flake of hay. He was never let out.

Argus' story has attracted international media attention, and thousands of people from around the world have followed the ongoing story of this amazing horse's will to survive and lead a normal life on his blog:  From Hell To Heaven: Saving Argus. Argus was adopted by his CHANGE foster family and now lives on a private farm in Santa Rosa.
