Penelope Penelope
is a 25-year-old gray Arabian mare. She had a body condition score
of 1 out of 9 on the Henneke Scoring scale. She was badly emaciated.
The CHANGE Program assisted the Sonoma County Animal Care and Control
Department
in removing her from a property in mid-November, 2011. She is now in
a
safe and secure foster barn. CHANGE has provided blankets for her through
the Supply Donation Program, and she is eating round the clock! Her
foster mom has spent a number of hours grooming Penelope and picking
hundreds
of ticks off of her. Her foster mom reports that Penelope loves to
be
groomed. She is very gentle despite not being handled and roaming free
on hundreds of acres for over 10 years! Penelope is in rough shape,
but the CHANGE Program is providing her all of the veterinary care,
foster care, supplies and medications that she needs to regain her
health.
February, 2012
Penelope is thriving in her rehabilitation! She is being fed four
times per day by her devoted foster barn volunteer and she is slowly and
steadily gaining weight. Since she was admitted into the CHANGE
Program by Sonoma County Animal Care and Control, she has been vaccinated,
dewormed, and had her teeth powerfloated. Penelope's foster mom
has worked tirelessly to heal her damaged skin (which was infested with
hundreds of ticks when she entered the program.) She is now a happy
gal and knickers whenever a visitor comes to pet her!
If you are interested in making Penelope a member of your family, she
will make an AWESOME pasture pet. She gets along well with other
horses and has lived in a herd for many years. She will be available
for adoption soon so please inquire about her.
Penelope is doing wonderfully in rehabilitation! She is slowly but
steadily gaining weight. Despite her age, she is an incredibly graceful
mover and she loves getting out with friends and running around! If
you are interested in Penelope, please email CHANGE at sonomachange@live.com.
March, 2012
Penelope has gained approximately 200 pounds since she came into the
CHANGE Program 3-1/2 months ago. She is eating wetted pellet mash and that seems
to be doing the trick for her.
Great Job to Dawn for rehabbing her! Penelope is trying on some new fashions!
