Cowboy's Progress

3-15-08 Approx. 5PM Cowboy was exhibiting signs of discomfort. Head down, pawing, and getting down to roll. One of our volunteers, Sarah, quickly notified Laura. Temp, P & R's were elevated, guts sounds were not abnormal.Dr. Miller was paged and Cowboy was given injectable Banamine (Banamine is an analgesic and anti-inflammatory medication. Banamine is used in horses to alleviate pain associated with equine colic) and hand walked. The banamine made Cowboy feel better, he perked up and was offered room temp bucket of water (which he drank from 2x). Dr. Miller arrived PDQ and the colic was assessed. Gas colic. Cowboy was tranquilized and then "tubed" (something horses do not enjoy) which warm water and mineral oil. Cowboy recovered (he was monitored all night) and was back to very small meals the following day.
